Share the Plate

UUCLR has shares its offering plates twice a month with worthy causes. On fourth Sundays, our offering goes to support the work we do with Our House, a family homeless shelter. On second Sundays, the offering is shared with a variety of groups.

School Backpack Program

In partnership with River City UU, we are collecting food for a school backpack program at Stephens Elementary School. Many of the children at Stephens live in or near poverty and weekends can leave them at risk for missing meals. This program helps by providing non-perishable food items that the children carry home with them. This program is always in need of food or monetary donations, and helping hands are always needed to help sort food and prepare for school delivery; people who can deliver to the school; and people who can serve as shoppers with donated funds (if you are going to the store anyhow, picking up some extra items for the program is easy!)

Prison Literacy Program

Currently a team of volunteers work at the state-run Rehabilitation Center at 4823 West 87th Street. They meet with Residents three nights per week. The Residents appreciate the non-judgmental caring and sharing. They have described this program as a refuge, reminding them that they are still part of a community. Donations are appreciated.

Our House

UUCLR has served dinners at Our House for many, many years. This facility supports the working homeless and helps to transition them back to independence. A small group from the church meets once a month at the facility, providing a dinner of their choice, and serves to the residents.

Chalice Lighters

Three times a year, the Chalice Lighter program provides a grant to a member congregation of the Southwest Unitarian Universalist Conference. These grants aid strong, growing congregations, churches that are vibrant and healthy, who have innovative plans for growth. It's funded by people like you: Unitarian Universalists who pledge a gift of ten dollars or more to each grant. Contact the church office if you have interest in serving as a Chalice Lighter.

Recycling Team

On the first Sunday of each month, our Recycling Team collects electronic devices, batteries, used printer cartridges, fluorescent bulbs, and other items for recycling. Aluminum cans and metals are collected and delivered to a recycling center and the funds collected come back to the church.
