TerraCycle LogoTerraCycle Program

We have an exciting new program to tell you about!  We are now a TerraCycle Brigade participant which means we are collecting specific non-recyclable packaging as a way to raise money.  This free collection program educates children about reusing, provides a much needed boost in funding for us and most importantly, saves tons of garbage from ending up in a landfill. You can help by having your child bring in packaging from items you use everyday. And if you don't have children to participate, let your inner child bring in the recyclables and support the effort! We will send them to TerraCycle and, in return, UUCLR will receive a donation. You can even track our collection efforts by setting up an account at www.terracycle.net and joining the UUCLR team.

We collect on First Sundays along with all the other recycling efforts.

Here are descriptions of the items we can send in.  "Brigade" refers to a waste stream, and each brigade must be sent in separately.  Which means they must be sorted.  Post this list in your kitchen as a reminder and for easy reference. If you see any of these precious materials littered on the ground pick it up as you normally would, but don't throw it away -- bring it to church!  Be sure to explain to the children in your life what you are doing, and remind them when the opportunity presents itself.  Have fun!

An eco-friendly innovator, TerraCycle will upcycle the materials we collect into cool new eco-friendly and affordable products such as tote bags, pencil cases, kites, shower curtains and backpacks that are available nationwide at Wal*Mart, Target, Home Depot, Office Max, and Sam's Club.  Since the products are made directly from used packaging of recognizable brands, children are able to quickly understand the impact of their efforts.  For more information on TerraCycle, visit www.terracycle.net or call 866-967-6766. The TerraCycle Brigade programs are a fun and easy way for us to empower ourselves and our children to make a difference locally and globally.  Thank you in advance for helping us reduce the amount of waste going to landfills.  Collection containers will be made available soon at the First Sunday Recycling tables.
